PLAN TO BAN SMOKING IN BARS

MARCELLA FINNEGAN,

MARCELLA FINNEGAN,

Madam, - I attended the Olympia Theatre in Dublin last Sunday evening and found it impossible to sit in the bar at the interval due to the number of people who were using the 15-minute break to smoke as many cigarettes as they could inhale - and exhale - in that period. Unlike Aoife Holahan (February 17th), I'm looking forward to a cleaner environment from January next. - Yours etc.

Madam, - The Minister for Health, Micheál Martin, has got it entirely right and I am gratified to learn from your edition of February 18th that the majority of voters agree with him.

Surely the right to enjoy good health outweighs the demand of smokers to have a fag with a social pint

On behalf of those who are vulnerable to tobacco smoke, I congratulate the Minister and am gratified by the public response. - Yours, etc.,
