`Ireland's Call'

Sir, - I would like to commend Paul Kelly's letter on the IRFU's decision to drop Amhran na Bhfiann (February 6th). It may be all right in the rugby public's eyes to dismiss our National Anthem in favour of an alternative that appeases a minority of a little over 10 per cent on this island, but I for one find this a shocking act.

There was never a problem when Ireland's Call was followed by the National Anthem. But why must the IRFU further compromise? If this trend continues, why can't they accommodate the growing numbers of Australians or New Zealanders playing for this country. It would then resemble the Eurovision Song Contest, something which we are at least capable of winning. - Yours, etc.,
