DOES RUGBY MATTER?

Madam, - Ben Headon (November 19th) asks in what other sport a match between two teams of 17-year-old boys would gain such excessive coverage. He blames this on the fact that a majority of journalists come from social classes that cherish rugby.

Rubbish! The Leinster Schools Senior final regularly attracts more than 25,000 spectators. In my eyes this is a major sporting event in Ireland. Journalists would be doing a disservice if they did not write about such an occasion. What other under-age sporting event gets such a crowd? - Yours, etc.,
