Sir, - I must compliment Seamus Heaney on his excellent translation of the old English poem Beowulf. There is an earlier translation of the poem that I picked up on my travels through the second-hand bookshops in Dublin in the mid-1960s.
I quote from the introduction: "General Editor, Sir AT Quiller Couch. The song of Beowulf, rendered into English prose by Professor R. L. Gordon. Printed by the Temple Press of Letchworth, UK."
