Sir, – Last Saturday, The Irish Times reported that there is close to a €1 billion shortfall in exchequer funding owing to the cut in fuel duty (Business, April 1st). I have a solution. Perhaps someone should tell the Minister for Finance that Ireland has yet to draw down any of the €1 billion entitlement from the EU’s huge Covid recovery fund, as was reported in The Irish Times on March 9th. Is there no one in the Department of Finance capable of joining the dots or do they only read other newspapers? – Yours, etc,
