A 17-year-old youth has died following a stabbing at his home at Ronanstown in west Dublin, reports Mary Carolan.

A 17-year-old youth has died following a stabbing at his home at Ronanstown in west Dublin, reports Mary Carolan.

The teenager was named yesterday as Daniel Rooney. Following the incident at his home at Rowlagh Crescent, Ronanstown, at about 1.45 p.m. on Saturday, Mr Rooney was taken to Tallaght Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr Rooney lived at home with his mother and six brothers and sisters. Neighbours reported hearing shouts coming from the house before the incident. A 19-year-old man was detained on nearby St Ronan's Avenue on Saturday evening in connection with the incident.

He was taken to the local Garda station for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The man was released without charge yesterday afternoon. A file has been sent to the DPP.
