Gardai in Galway have ruled out foul play in connection with the death of a Sligo woman whose body was found in her home in the Salthill area of the city. A post-mortem on the remains of Ms Theresa Normanly has shown that she died of natural causes.

The examination was conducted yesterday by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, at University College Galway Hospital after a neighbour found her body on her sitting room floor late on Sunday night.

Ms Normanly, who was single and in her early 40s, had worked as a cook for many years in St Anne's Children's Centre in Taylor's Hill, Galway. Originally from Curry, near Ballymote in Co Sligo, she was a very committed volunteer with the Galway Simon Community. She lived on her own in a two-roomed apartment in Salthill.

Although Ms Normanly's body was reported to have some bruising, there was no sign of any break-in or struggle.
