Two held over €4m cigarettes theft

Two men have been arrested over the theft of cigarettes worth €4 million at Dublin Port yesterday.

Two men have been arrested over the theft of cigarettes worth €4 million at Dublin Port yesterday.

The cigarettes were in two containers which were removed by trucks from a yard at the port in the early hours of yesterday.

Gardaí arrested the men yesterday afternoon after stopping a lorry with container near Ashbourne, Co Meath. Half the cigarettes were recovered from the container.

Gardaí are still searching for the other container which is described as a blue 40ft rigid container with SEACO written in bold lettering on the side.

The men are being questioned at Ashbourne Garda Station. They can be held until noon today.>{?
