Two bullets have been discovered at Limerick Prison.

It is  understood one of the bullets was found near a cell and the second on a landing of one of the wings.

The incident comes amid growing concerns amongst prison officers for staff safety, following a number of incidents in recent months,  including attacks on prison officers' homes and properties.

Staff at the prison voted last month by an overwhelming majority in favour of industrial action over their growing fears for staff safety at the jail.
