YEREVAN - Mr Levon TerPetrosyan yesterday was officially declared winner of last week's controversial presidential election in Armenia, giving him five more years in office. The Central Electoral Commission said Mr Ter Petrosyan had received nearly 52 per cent of the vote compared to less than 42 per cent for his main opponent, Mr Vazgen Manukyan.

The margin of victory is likely to add fire to allegations by the Manukyan camp that fraud and irregularities, also noted by international observers, influenced the result in Mr Ter Petrosyan's favour.
