The solicitor who acted for George Redmond in his tax and bribery trials was yesterday fined €1,200 for failing to make income tax and VAT returns.

Mr Anthony Harris, Kilakee Road, Rathfarnham, and Agnes Road, Crumlin, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to make the returns in 2001. Four other summonses, three for VAT and one for income tax, were withdrawn by the DPP.

Mr Harris's solicitor told Dublin District Court he was a sole practitioner who had moved office in 2001. At the same time, he was "engaged in some difficult and long-running cases which took up huge amounts of time."

All returns had since been filed.
