Edinburgh - A Scottish National Party activist yesterday denied suggestions he had called for an independent Scotland to be armed with chemical and biological weapons. Mr Stuart Crawford, a tank squadron commander during the 1991 Gulf War, wrote an academic paper last year in which he argued that the SNP "should at least consider" the use of ballistic missiles. Ten days ago he was appointed his party's deputy defence spokesman.
