Paris - Baron Edmond de Rothschild (71), philanthropist, international financier and member of the Rothschild banking dynasty, died yesterday in Geneva of a respiratory illness, a spokesman said.
Head of a banking empire that spans Europe and stretches as far as Israel and the Antilles, Edmond de Rothschild was believed to be the richest member of the family that has been the symbol of wealth in France for nearly two centuries.
