LONDON - The British government advised parents yesterday to wash and peel fruit after tests revealed contaminated peaches and apples containing up to four times the recommended level of pesticides.

The government was quick to insist there was no cause for concern. "A small number of apples and peaches, including imports, had higher residue levels than desirable," it said in a statement.
