A convicted murderer who threatened to put a bullet in the back of a barrister’s head while she was acting for the State in opposing his bail application has been jailed for 18 months.

Gary Howard (24), Dunsoghly Grove, Finglas, was convicted at the Central Criminal Court of two charges of murder last January and is currently serving a life sentence.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to threatening to kill or cause serious harm to Gráinne O’Neill in court six of the Four Courts complex on August 16th, 2011.

Garda Stephen Mullen said Ms O’Neill had been instructed by the DPP to oppose Howard’s bail application. He stood up and shouted: “See you, you tramp, if I ever get out of prison I will put a bullet in the back of your head.”
