A murder accused lied repeatedly to explain why his palm print was allegedly found in blood splashes at the scene of the murder, it was claimed in the Central Criminal Court yesterday.

Mr Tom O'Connell SC, prosecuting, accused Mr Raymond Casey of "inventing" stories to explain his presence at Lonergan's Lane, off Newenham Street, Limerick, where barman Mr Noel Pyper was kicked to death four years ago.

Mr Raymond Casey (38) of Ashe Avenue, John Carew Park and Mr Anthony Casey (20) with an address at Mount Pleasant Avenue, Limerick, have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Pyper (48) on August 12th, 1997.

The trial was adjourned until January 4th for closing submissions.
