US brokerage Merill Lynch declined to comment on a rumour circulating the market in Frankfurt that it is set to issue a profit warning today.
"We don't comment on speculation," a company spokesman said.
Dealers said the rumours originated from the trading floor at the Frankfurt stock exchange this afternoon.
