Two Malahide men have been ordered by Judge Elizabeth Dunne to pay £5,000 each to a man they pushed through a glass window during a late-night brawl. John Thornton also received a 21/2year suspended sentence, while his co-accused, Liam O'Brien, received a two-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Thornton (23), of Grove Lawn, and O'Brien (24), of Swords Road, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Mr Daragh Brady and to criminal damage on April 5th, 1999. Mr Dominic McGinn, for Thornton, and Mr Brendan Grehan, for O'Brien, pleaded for leniency because both had impeccable records and had steady jobs.
