A 29-year-old Dublin man is in intensive care in the city's Mater Hospital after being stabbed in the chest on Saturday night.

The victim was attacked by a number of youths on Bachelors Walk at around 9.45 p.m, not long after the Skyfest fireworks on the nearby city quays.

Last night, a Mater Hospital spokeswoman said the man remained "extremely ill, but stable".

No one was detained after the attack and gardaí said there was no indication yet of a motive. Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda station, tel 01-6668000.
