Man beaten by south Dublin raiders

Gardaí are looking for two armed and masked attackers who assaulted a man in his south Dublin home this morning.

The man, believed to be a local businessman, was beaten up by the raiders. It is believed they intended to carry out a "tiger" kidnapping, but when they arrived found the man's wife was not there.

The raiders, wearing dark clothes and balaclavas, went into the house in Glen Drive, The Park, Cabinteely, shortly after 8am. One was armed with a knife and one with what is believed to be a handgun.

The raiders stole cash and a legally held firearm from the house.

The victim was injured in the head and was later treated in Loughlinstown hospital.

The first raider was described by gardaí as being six foot two in height, of big build in his late 20s or early 30s, with a south Dublin accent. The second was about five foot seven in height, of stocky build, and in his early 20s.

Gardaí have asked anyone who was in the Glen Drive area of Cabinteely this morning who saw anything suspicious to contact them at Cabinteely Garda station.
