Gardaí in Cork are questioning a man following a drugs seizure in the Little Island area outside the city this afternoon.
Local gardaí, along with members of the Garda National Drug Unit and the Customs National Drug unit, carried out a search at a premises early this morning.
A package containing what garda sources said was around 4kg of what is believed to be cocaine with a high level of purity, was seized during the operation. However, the drugs will now be sent for further analysis.
One man was arrested and is being questioned at Cobh Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act. He can be held for up to seven days.
Today's seizure is the latest of a number in the Cork area this year. Last March, a million euros worth of cocaine and an alleged cocaine mixing plant were discovered by gardaí in a premises on Pope's Quay.
And in a single day in April, there were two substantial seizures of cannabis worth more than €2 million in total.
