Liverpool missed out on the chance to go top of the Premiership this afternoon as they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by battling Bolton.

Steven Gerrard gave the Reds the lead, but Kevin Nolan equalised as the visitors came storming back and were unlucky not to take all the points.

Southampton, on the other hand, did manage to grab a shock away win as they went to Stamford Bridge and thumped Chelsea 4-2 with the aid of a brace from James Beattie.

Charlton triumphed 3-2 at home to Ipswich despite finding themselves two down after five minutes.
