A former Bosnian Serb general and wartime deputy to top fugitive Ratko Mladic has surrendered to the Serbian authorities to face war crimes charges.

Milan Gvero was not on the list of those publicly accused by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, but the Serbian government said it had received his indictment.

He is expected to leave for The Hague on Thursday.
