Father guilty of raping his daughter

A Mayo father has been convicted at the Central Criminal Court of raping his teenage daughter. The jury found the 48-year-old man guilty on 19 charges of rape and sexual assault from 2000-2003.

Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins remanded him in custody for sentencing and certified him as a sex offender. He also directed the preparation of a victim impact report.The jury heard the now 15-year-old girl give evidence of her father watching porn videos. She said he would then sexually abuse her.

Chef pleads guilty to raping woman

A man who raped a woman in her Dublin home has been remanded in custody for sentencing later at the Central Criminal Court.

Asogan Kanagasabai (27), a chef from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and with no fixed address here, pleaded guilty to orally raping the victim on February 5th last in a south city suburb.

Kanagasabai also pleaded guilty to threatening to kill or injure the woman and to theft of her mobile phone and iPod.

Man acquitted of shooting charge

A man has been acquitted by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of shooting an acquaintance last December. Gary Hutch (25), Sherrard Street Lower, Dublin, had pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Seville Place, on December 8th, 2006.

Paul Reilly (27) had earlier told the court that he wrongly identified Mr Hutch as the gunman because he wanted to get back at him after hearing rumours that he was having an affair with his partner.

Drug dealer pleads guilty

A north County Dublin drug dealer has been jailed for six years after cocaine and cannabis worth €55,000 was found at his home.

Patrick McDonnell (26), Lusk, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs at Hillside Gardens, Skerries, on June 14th, 2004.

Addict robbed two pharmacies

A chronic drug addict who committed three robberies in two pharmacies has been sentenced to six years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Christopher Crilly (21) Edenmore Shopping Centre, Edenmore, and Marigold Court, Darndale, pleaded guilty to the robberies between November 2005 and August 2006.

Man caught with cocaine jailed

A Meath man has been sentenced to four years at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for importing cocaine.

Collins Igweonu (35), Clonee, pleaded guilty to having the cocaine at Dublin airport on June 21st, 2006. Judge Patricia Ryan suspended the final year of the sentence.

Boy injured by wooden chicken

The family of a five-year-old schoolboy whose cheek was punctured when he was head-butted by a spring-loaded wooden chicken at a Canary Islands holiday resort has accepted a settlement of €8,500 in the Circuit Civil Court.

Aoife Budd, counsel for Kyle Crilly, Wheatfield Close, Clondalkin, Dublin, recommended approval of the settlement from Budget Travel, Lower Baggot Street, Dublin.

IRA membership ruling reserved

The Special Criminal Court has reserved judgment in the trial of a man accused of IRA membership. Philip Bollard (22), Grange Manor, Lucan, Co Dublin, has denied the charge.

The court has been told that Mr Bollard was targeted by the Garda crime and security branch as part of an investigation into the activities of the Real IRA.

Jailed for knife attack on brothers

A man who took part in a frenzied knife attack on two brothers, which "could have resulted in a fatality", has been jailed for four years.

David O'Loughlin (21), Finian Park, Shannon, Co Clare, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Arturas and Aivaras Segzda at Tullyvarraga, Shannon, in December 2005.

O'Loughlin assaulted the two Lithuanians because he wrongly believed they had raped his sister.
