Woman pedestrian killed by truck

A woman in her late 60s was killed when she was struck by a truck in Co Cork yesterday.

The vehicle hit the pedestrian as it was leaving a building site in Cappagh, Kinsale, Co Cork, at 5.20pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Cork University Hospital.

A postmortem will take place today. Nobody else was injured in the accident.

Botox trademark action in court

A company whose Irish wing manufactures anti-wrinkle treatment Botox has claimed before the Commercial Court that a Dublin firm is infringing its trademark by using a similar name in one of its cosmetic products.

The court heard that sales of Botox amount to more than $1 billion worldwide, including some €600,000 in Ireland last year.

Allergan Incorporated, Delaware, USA, and Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland Ltd, Westport, Co Mayo, who own the trademark name "Botox", claim the use of the word "Botoina" by a rival infringes its trademark and is causing confusion among consumers.

It has brought proceedings against Ocean Healthcare of Convent Road, Blackrock, Co Dublin, distributors of "Botoina".

New cross-Border workers' service

Thousands of cross-Border workers are missing out on entitlements and services because of a lack of information, it was claimed yesterday at the launch of a new website www.border people.info.

The website will advise cross-Border citizens on everything from banking and social security to mobile phones and housing.

Some 23,000 people cross the Border to work or study every day.
