Outlets recall seed-mix products
Three supermarkets have been hit by a recall of seed- mix products over fears that sesame seeds used in their production have been contaminated with salmonella.
A recall notice was issued yesterday for the affected products, supplied by Kestrel Foods in Northern Ireland to Tesco, Superquinn and Supervalu.
The affected items include all batches of Tesco’s Wholefoods Seed Mix and Forest Feast Sesame Seeds (50g) sold by Superquinn.
Supervalu is recalling its own Goodness Seed Mix 70g and 300g, with a best before date of March 31st, 2010, and its Sesame Seeds 150g, with the same best before date.
Minister accused of delaying Unesco bid
Campaign group TaraWatch has accused Minister for the Environment John Gormley of delaying the nomination of the Hill of Tara as a Unesco World Heritage site in order to facilitate the construction of the M3 motorway, writes Olivia Kelly. However, a spokesman for Mr Gormley said the accusation was "utterly untrue".
TaraWatch spokesman, Vincent Salafia said Mr Gormley had started the process of nominating the Hill of Tara as a Unesco site in December 2007 but had now delayed it until July 2010.The accusation was false and misleading, said a spokesman for Mr Gormley.
“It is the Minister who initiated this process, the Minister who kick-started it and pushed it forward and that he is being accused of delaying it is utterly untrue and very disappointing.”
Woman killed by truck in Macroom
A female pedestrian was struck and killed in a road collision in Macroom, Co Cork, yesterday.
The woman died when she was struck by a truck on the main street of the town shortly after midday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to University College Hospital, Cork, where a postmortem is due to take place today.
Gardaí in Macroom are investigating the cause of the crash. The road was closed for much of the afternoon for technical examination.
The N22 road, which is part of the main route from Cork to Kerry, was reopened by rush hour but there were significant traffic delays.
