Padraig Harrington today shot an opening round of 67 in the Benson and Hedges International Open at The Belfry to leave himself one shot behind England's David Dixon who leads on six under.

Despite bogeying the second Harrington struck back immediately with an eagle after chipping in from 91 yards with a sand-wedge.

Four birdies followed in a flawless 15 holes to leave the Dubliner in second place.

Darren Clarke shot a disappointing 77 while Graeme McDowell and veteran Ronan Rafferty both finished with a 75 each.

Slightly better were Paul McGinley with a 73 and Gary Murphy with a 74.

Peter Lawrie meanwhile remains on the course on two over after 13 holes.
