The South African, who began the day at 11 under par, finished the day at 16-under 197, with Australia's Adam Scott in second place after carding a 67.

Dubliner Paul McGinley, for whom one brilliant round could clinch a Ryder Cup debut, shot a 67 and lies joint third two strokes further back along with crowd-puller John Daly, who shot a 66.

Goosen, who held a halfway lead of two shots over Scott, collected four birdies, an eagle-three at the 13th and a bogey to maintain his fine form ahead of next week's British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

The 20-year-old Scott, chasing a second European Tour win this year, mixed three birdies with a bogey-four and an eagle to finish the day at 13-under.

Daly ignited hopes of a first tournament win anywhere in the world for five years and 51 weeks.

The former US PGA and British Open champion thrilled the large Scottish crowds over the first two days with successive rounds of 68 and he managed to go two better on Saturday.

There was a huge roar of approval from the local fans when the big American chipped in for an eagle-two at the ninth.

Daly is seeking his first victory since winning the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews.
