Frankfurt - German police said yesterday they were hunting three robbers who stole an automatic cash dispenser by hauling it out of a bank with a truck.

The robbers entered the 24-hour self-service area of the closed bank early on Monday morning, threw a chain around the machine, attached it to the truck and tore it out, a police spokesman said. The loud bang woke some residents in the small town of Willingen who watched the men load the machine on the truck and drive off. Police spotted the truck an hour later and gave chase but the men abandoned it and escaped into a forest. "We haven't found them yet and we have no new clues," police spokesman Mr Werner Diele said. The cash dispenser, containing tens of thousands of marks, was not found.
