The Garda has renewed its appeal to motorists to drive carefully, particularly during this bank holiday weekend.

In a statement released today, the gardaí  said that 86 people were arrested yesterday on suspicion of drink driving, bringing the total number of drink-related arrests on Saturdays during April to almost 400 people.

Deaths on the roads on Saturdays and Sundays account for almost 50 per cent of all road deaths and a garda spokesperson said drink driving continues to be a very serious concern.
