A man was being treated in St James's Hospital, Dublin, yesterday after being assaulted at his home in Tallaght at around 1 a.m. by six men wearing balaclavas and carrying pick axe handles.

The man was sitting in the front room of his home at Kilmartin Avenue when the attack took place. According to gardai, he escaped through the window but was chased by his assailants and bundled into a car.

He was taken to Killinarden Hill, threatened with what he believed was a gun and then let go. After raising the alarm, he was taken to hospital with a broken leg, arm and finger.

In an unrelated incident at 1.30 a.m. in Ballyfermot, a man, who was in the grounds of the GAA club on Sarsfield Road with his girlfriend was attacked by three other men and stabbed in the leg, neck and face.
