Taiwanese LCD maker Chimei Innolux Corp, an affiliate of Foxconn Technology, confirmed the death of a man at one of its China plants, the latest in a series of such incidents at manufacturing sites in China.
Chimei, which is also affiliated with Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, said in a statement today that the man worked for an employment agency contracted by Chimei. He fell from a dormitory at Chimei's Foshan plant in southern China early yesterday morning.
Police are investigating the incident, the statement said.
The man, born in 1992, was from Hebei in northern China and was working for the employment agency as an intern under an arrangement with his school, Chimei said.
He started the internship on July 2nd but stopped coming to work a day and a half later, so the company terminated the internship, and the man was preparing to return home.
Hon Hai, the world's largest electronics components maker whose clients include Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard, came under intense international scrutiny earlier this year after a series of suicides at China plants run at its Foxconn unit.
The suicides, which the company said were not work-related but which victims' families have blamed on tough conditions, triggered a wave of labour unrest in China.
