FORENSIC scientists were yesterday examining the house in north Dublin in which a couple escaped injury when a gunman fired through a front room window.

Gardai have not suggested a motive for the shooting but there is speculation that the incident may have been drugs related.

It happened at about 11.30 pm. on Saturday when a man walked up to the house at Templeview Green in the large new housing development called Clare Hall off the Malahide road on the outskirts of Coolock, near Kinsealy.

He is believed to have used a hand gun to shoot six times at the front room of the semi detached house in the estate, where all the houses are privately owned.

The younger brother of the owner of the house and his girlfriend were in the front living room having a drink when the shots were fired. Both were extremely shocked. Nobody from the family was in the house yesterday morning as gardai examined the scene.

There were three bullet holes in the window and marks on a wall which it is thought may account for the three other shots reported to have been fired.

No arrests were made in relation to the incident and nobody has so far been questioned. There is no description of the gunman but it is thought he did not use a getaway vehicle.

Clare Hall is a large and recently completed landscaped development of three and four bedroom houses.
