Five arrested over Wexford supermarket robbery

Four men and a woman have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery on a supermarket in Wexford town earlier today.

Two men, armed with hand guns, entered the Londis store at Ferndale shortly after 8am.

The raiders are understood to have threatened staff before taking an undisclosed sum of money.

Gardai later arrested four men, two in their 20s and two in their 40s, and a woman .in her 40's, at a house in the town. A shotgun and two handguns were also seized.

Gardai said the arrests also connected to an armed robbery on a bookmakers in the town two days ago.

The five are detained under Section 30 of the Offence Against the State Act

and may be detained for up to 72 hours.

They are being held at New Ross, Wexford and Enniscorthy Garda Stations.
