Two fingerprint experts gave evidence yesterday at the resumed Appeal Court hearing in London of Mr Danny McNamee who is challenging his conviction for conspiracy to cause explosions in connection with the Hyde Park bombing in 1982.

Mr Peter Swann, and Mr Martin John Leadbetter claimed that a thumb print found on a battery was insufficient for any comparison to be made with Mr McNamee's thumb print.

Mr Swann said the thumb print bordered on "no value" while Mr Leadbetter told the court he had never seen a print as bad as the one that had been submitted for his examination. Mr McNamee (38) from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, was released two weeks ago from the Maze prison in Northern Ireland under the terms of the Belfast Agreement.
