England won a convincing 165-run victory today over a strong Board President's XI in the opening first-class match of their Sri Lankan tour.

Resuming on 20 for three, still 305 behind England, the President's XI slumped to 160 all out with Ashley Giles claiming four for 37 while Michael Vaughan continued his progress as an off-spinner by taking two for three and lifting his match tally to four.

The only resistance from the Sri Lankan side today came from test hopefuls Hashan Tillekeratne and Tillekeratne Dilshan who forged a determined 58-run fourth wicket partnership and threatened to frustrate the tourists' hopes of victory.

Warwickshire left-arm spinner Giles broke up the stand, however, with Dilshan driving straight to Michael Atherton at short extra cover, although Tillekeratne survived for 30 more overs before edging to Nasser Hussain at leg slip as he tried a sweep shot. PA
