EMPOWERMENT and Action is the title of a two-day conference on adult, community and development education being held on October 18th and 19th at the Regency Airport Hotel in Dublin as part of the European Year of Lifelong Learning.

While the Instituto Cervantes is continuing its programme of Spanish language courses for all levels this autumn, it has added some extra courses this year with a somewhat different slant. ACCEPT, the association for community counselling, education and psychological training, is offering a one-year home study certificate and a two-year home study diploma course in counselling, psychology and therapy starting this autumn. The County Donegal VEC and the Department of Social Welfare have come together to produce a new Adult Education & Training Directory for the county. The directory contains a list of full and part-time courses available in Donegal and surroundings areas (Strabane and Derry) and it provides information on fees, contact names and numbers.
The directory covers everything from secretarial and computer courses to wine-making, farming and sports. Copies are available from the Employment Support Service of the Department of Social Welfare or from the Donegal VEC at (074) 26919/21705.
