NUI Galway Alumni Association

The president of NUI Galway, Dr Iognaid O Muircheartaigh, who retires next month, will be interviewed by Patsy McGarry of The Irish Timesat the inaugural meeting of the arts and media branch of the NUI Galway Alumni Association next Tuesday, February 12th in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin. Proceedings begin with a reception at 6.30pm and conclude with the election of a committee.

The Irish Times'Debate semi-finals

The semi-finals of The Irish TimesDebate start on Monday, February 11th, at 7pm in the theatre at the Science Gallery, Naughton Institute, TCD, Pearse St, Dublin. The motion is "This house regrets the rise of social networking websites", and the chair is Dr Gary McDarby.

The three other semi-finals will take place in NUI Galway on Saturday, February 16th, King's Inns, Dublin, on Tuesday, February 19th, and UCD on Wednesday, February 20th. Admission is free and all are welcome. For further information visit www.ireland.com/education

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Castlebar ia holding its annual careers fair on the Castlebar campus on Thursday February 7th from 10am to 1pm. Over 40 regional and national employers will attend.

University of Limerick - Week of Wonder

UL is hosting The Real Science of the Circus by professional circus performer and teacher James Soper as part of its Engineers Ireland "Week of Wonder". The show takes place on Monday, February 11th from 7pm -8pm in the University Concert Hall.

The Real Science of the Circus is aimed at 10- to 14-year-olds, but is suitable for all and is open to the public free of charge. Booking is required. Contact the University Concert Hall box office. Tel: 061-331549.
