DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Open Day

The conservatory’s open day is on Saturday, March 7th from 11pm to 3pm. Information on junior, part-time and full-time programmes will be available; attendees can meet the teachers, try an instrument, listen to orchestras, bands and ensembles. Bring the family. Intending undergraduate and postgraduate students are invited to meet lecturers and students from 1pm to 3pm.

World Book Day

World Book Day on Thursday, March 5th marks 12 years of Ireland’s largest celebration of books and reading. Every primary school child will receive a €1.50 book token, which can be redeemed against one of seven specially produced World Book Day children’s books. Log on to www.worldbookday.com to find out about book events for adults and children in your area during the month of March.

Education Lectures at Waterford IT

The School of Education in WIT’s public lectures on current debates in education continue next week when Prof Kathryn Ecclestone of Oxford Brookes University will give a lecture titled “In an emotional state: the dangers of therapeutic education” at 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 10th in the main auditorium, WIT Cork Rd campus. Dyslexia Association of Ireland Course for Parents

The Dyslexia Association of Ireland (DAI) is organising a one-day course for parents on dyslexia on Saturday, March 21st in Days Hotel, Dublin Road, Galway. The fee per parent is €60 (DAI Members) and €85 (non-members). A free course for Junior Cycle students with dyslexia will be run concurrently with the parents’ course. There is no fee for the students’ course, but students’ families must be current members of the DAI (annual membership fee is just €40). Pre-booking is essential. Kerouac at NUI Maynooth

The library and the School of English, Media and Theatre Studies at NUI Maynooth have collaborated to host a major exhibition – “Jack Kerouac Back on the Road”, featuring the original 127-foot scroll of the text of Kerouac’s On the Road, typed in one piece in 1951. The exhibition is being held in the Russell Library from Thursday, March 5th to Thursday, March 19th. Córfhéile na Scoileanna, Ath Cliath

Córfhéile na Scoileanna, Ath Cliath, is the biggest non-competitive music festival for school children in Ireland. It runs until Friday, March 6th in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, starting each evening at 7.45pm.
