Gardai are investigating the discovery of the body of a 21-year-old woman at a house in the Blackpool area of Cork city early this morning.
It is understood gardai were called after a woman in her 40s walked into a local taxi office carrying a an infant at around 6.00am and alerted staff about the body.
Gardai made their way ot a house at Commons Road and found the body of Jessica Prendergast, a mother of a one-year-old boy from Cork city. It is understood she died a violent death.
The scene at Commons Road has been preserved and an inspection has been carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has conducted a preliminary examination of the body. It has now been taken to Cork University Hospital for a full post-mortem.
Gardai said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
