Three Northern Ireland government departments have been struck by the computer virus NIMDA E. It has closed down computer systems in the Departments of the Environment, Regional Development and Culture, Arts and Leisure. It is estimated that 5,000 computers in these departments will be offline until next week.

A departmental spokesman said services to the public would continue but there would be delays.
