Chelsea have had a €25 million bid for Brazil captain Emerson turned down by Roma with the Italian club insisting it will be their decision whether the player ultimately stays or goes.

Roma sporting director Franco Baldini today claimed that although Emerson wants to stay with the Giallorossi, the decision might not be his to make if Chelsea step up their interest.

"We have refused a €25 million offer from Chelsea," said Baldini.

"The player wants to stay at Roma, but it is the club who will decide the player's future. Chelsea's bid so far is the most significant offer."
