PORT WASHINGTON - A New York animal shelter is being flooded with calls to adopt a cat which risked its life to rescue its five tiny kittens, one by one, from a burning building.
A New York City firefighter at a garage fire in Brooklyn on Friday noticed the cat carrying a kitten out of the flames, a spokeswoman for a local animal shelter said. The cat went back into the burning building four more times to retrieve the rest of her litter, she said. By her last trip the cat was badly burned.
