After the vehicle was halted on the M9, it was taken back to Dublin Port where some 300kg of cannabis resin and herb were found, with an estimated value of €1.7 million, gardaí said.

A Lithuanian man (33) has been arrested and is being held at Store Street Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

In a statement, Customs said 270kg of cannabis resin and seven kilos of herbal cannabis were found. The service put the estimated street value at €1.6 million, subject to analysis. It said the drugs were hidden in a consignment of tiles that arrived in Dublin Port from Spain.

The seizure was a result of a joint operation the Garda and Customs.
