A Welshman, Mr Martin Williams (18), charged with the manslaughter of Mr Jeffrey Leigh (64), two weeks ago in Co Cavan, was refused bail in Virginia District Court in Co Cavan yesterday. During the bail hearing, Supt Jack O'Connor described Mr Williams as having led a fugitive lifestyle in Wales and said he would abscond if released.

The witness said the defendant had been the only person in the house when the alleged crime was committed. Mr Williams had allegedly made a full admission to gardai.

Mr Williams, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, was remanded by Judge Donal McArdle to appear before Ballyjamesduff District Court, Co Cavan, on January 15th.
