AN anti drugs activist from Tallaght, Dublin, was sentenced to five months jail yesterday after being found guilty of having an offensive weapon and being verbally abusive to gardai.

Michael Warner (40), of Knockmore Park, was sentenced by Judge Desmond Windle for having the offensive weapon at Belgard Road, Tallaght, on May 11th. He was also given a four month sentence for a breach of the peace at Belgard Road on the same date.

Garda John Hammond said Warner refused to go home on May 11th and a can of Mace was found in his pocket. Later at Tallaght Garda station, he was abusive and kicked doors.

Warner's solicitor said his client was an anti drugs activist and saw himself to be "under threat from persons dealing in drugs".

"Do these vigilantes think they can do anything? This behaviour is disgraceful," Judge Windle said.

Warner was also sentenced to three months for breach of the peace at The Square, Tallaght, on June 1st.
