A heroin and cocaine abuser who sold £500 worth of drugs daily in Dublin city centre has been jailed for 7 1/2 years. Philip Rooney (26), of Cappagh Avenue, Finglas, pleaded guilty to having heroin for supply.

Garda Larry Duggan told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court he found heroin with a value of about £450 in a condom in Rooney's pocket and also under a bed during a search of a flat in Gardiner Street.

Rooney admitted selling about £500 worth of drugs a day in the O'Connell Street area. Judge Cyril Kelly said that because Rooney had given up heroin while on remand in prison he would review the sentence on October 18th, 1999.
