Pop star Jason Brown - better known to his fans as Jay from the boy band 5ive - was unable to face an assault charge in a Dublin court today because he was with his sick mother in the United States.

Mr Brown (24) and fellow band member Mr Richard Dobson (21) were arrested last December after a fracas in a city centre bar which left a man with head injuries.
Both Mr Brown and Mr Dobson were charged with being drunk and disorderly and breaching the peace while Mr Brown was in addition charged with assault.
Mr Dobson - known by his stage name Ritchie Neville - pleaded guilty to the charges in Dublin's Richmond Street Court and an order was made under the Probation Act meaning he has no conviction but the matter could be raised should he commit a further offence.
He is to pay £3,000 to the court's poor box.
