Castleknock: The brief interior designer Isabel Morton was given to revamp Phoenix View, a Tudor-style house on Castleknock Road in Dublin 15, was to create a comfortable family home with lots of style.
She met the brief with gusto. Three years on, the owners have to relocate for work reasons and the 372 sq m (4,000 sq ft) house close to the Castleknock Gates of the Phoenix Park has come to the market in pristine condition.
Phoenix View is to be auctioned on October 16th and has a guide price of €1.7 million. Turley and Associates and Sherry FitzGerald Lewis Beirne are the joint selling agents.
The house, which is set behind high granite walls and electric gates, was also extended and internally remodelled. It oozes personality - each room has its own look and, in some cases, theme.
The interconnecting diningroom and drawingroom have a Regency feel. Both rooms are large with white marble mantelpieces, coving and wide plank maple flooring. The drawing- room is elegant but cosy, despite its proportions, with bow-shaped double doors and windows overlooking the landscaped garden.
The contemporary kitchen/breakfastroom has plenty of solid oak fitted units, gleaming granite worktops and a chrome hood over a Leisure Chef Centre catering oven . The breakfastroom is in an extended bow-shaped area with a pitch pine ceiling. There is also a large utility room. Double doors lead from the kitchen to a snug TV room . Also at ground floor level is a Roman-themed black and white striped downstairs toilet.
Four of the six bedrooms are on the first floor. The main bedroom is spacious with an arch through to a seating area. It also has a walk-in dressingroom and a large en suite with a Villeroy and Boch suite, glass shelving, and steps to a double shower.
The owners' children were given free rein to choose the decor for their bedrooms. The result is one bedroom with a woodland theme: floor-to-ceiling murals with country cottages, trees, butterflies and birds. Another room has cloudscape wallpaper and a four poster bed. The fully tiled Roman-themed bathroom has a Jacuzzi, frosted windows and a magnificent curved glass and chrome shower. On the top floor is a playroom with doors cleverly concealing a pull-down bed.
The secluded rear garden backs on to the Phoenix Park and has a patio area, rock pool fountain, and a children's play area. There is parking for six cars.
