Look to Germany for well-made lighter wines with lower alcohol levels

Wines for the Weekend: Put aside any lingering prejudices you may have against German wines

I have mentioned the two German wines below on a previous occasion. When on promotion, they offer outstanding value for money to those who like lighter wines with lower levels of alcohol. The Riesling is 12.5 per cent and the pinot noir 13 per cent. Put aside any lingering prejudices you may have against German wines. These are really well-made modern wines that deserve a place on your dinner table. And they aren’t sweet.

If your tastes are more traditional, SuperValu also has two well-priced Bordeaux, Château Camp de la Hire (€17.99 down to €12.99) and Château Moulin-Lafitte (€18.99 down to €13.99).
